Fort Osage Church of the Nazarene in coordination with the Puerto Rico East District Superintendent, did a Work & Witness trip to Puerto Rico to help Gurabo’s Church of the Nazarene to rebuild their fence that got destroyed by Hurricane Maria back in 2017. They traveled January 11th - 19th, 2025.
We had a team of 25 members. The trip was a great experience for everyone, especially for our teens. One of the greatest highlights was the extra help we got from an independent contractor who happened to be at Home Depot where our lead pastor and others were renting some tools. This contractor overheard that we were a mission team and he offered to help at no charge. What amazed us the most was that this contractor had their agenda full until June, but one of his clients pushed their job due to a last minute inconvenience so the contractor decided to team up with us. Praise God! Without their help we would not have been able to finish the project according to our schedule. Also, on day three of our trip, half of the team got sick with a stomach flu. Thank God we had a nurse within the team and also we started a prayer chain with our KC District churches, PR East's District’s churches and Gurabo’s church members, friends and relatives; the virus stopped and didn’t spread. It could’ve been worse but God intervened. Praise be to Him. Overall the trip was a success! This was Fort Osage's first mission trip! We are very grateful for all the guidance we have been receiving from Barry Jackson and Kevin Williamson who have shared their experiences and some resources with our church board and work & witness team.
